THE MOONLIT 89TH ACADEMY AWARDS CEREMONY

The 89th Academy Awards (Oscars) ceremony held on Sunday the 26th of February where the winners for the various categories were announced. La La Land was the biggest winner on the night with 6 awards and Moonlight carting the award for Best Picture. Both movies deserve their awards but if you ask me, I will give Hacksaw Ridge Best Picture, but hey, what do I know right?

The ghost of Steve Harvey has yet again haunted a big show on live TV with Warren Beatty & Dunaway Read announcing the wrong movie for the Best Picture winner. They announced La La Land as the winner and after some confusion, Moonlight was announced as the correct winner of the award. Am I the only one who smells a conspiracy? How else can one explain this enmeshment so soon after the Miss Universe imbroglio?  Is someone playing a prank? So many questions rage as to how this happened but I am sure the show’s organizers will come out with an official statement.

By the way, Jimmy Kimmel was a great host. He was at his witty best and his biting quips with political undertones were hilarious…or stinging if you were at the end of his barbs. He took shots at Mel Gibson, Donald Trump and even Justin Timberlake but all in all, it was all in good fun.

Other than the Best Picture award mêlée, the 89th Oscar was pretty much the same with the stars all dressed to the hilt looking their stunning best (but I am not sure what Octavia was dressed as big bird). I hope the organizers of our AMVCA which is billed to take place this week watched this ceremony and try to up our game to international standards.

I am still woozy from watching the awards till the early morning but here is the complete list of the winners on the night.
