Revue of GET OUT
What type of scary movie do you get when comedian Jordan Peele decides to ditch his funny bone and go dark? The answer – A darn good one. Jordan Peele of Key and Peele writes and directs the thrilling movie that leaves you going WTF through out the entire movie. This movie had my eyes permanently glued to the screen and I totally recommend that you go see this.
Its starts off like any typical story. Black man; Chris played by Daniel Kaluuya and his white girlfriend; Rose (Allison Williams) go visit her parents in some posh predominantly white suburb in rural America. Her photographer boyfriend experiences not only some expected hostility and racism due to the colour of his skin but also some other interests.
He experiences a series of events in which he is oogled, felt up, auctioned and attempts to kick ass in an effort to survive the weekend.
In a nut shell, what to expect in this movie? Hypnosis, disappearing black men, brains, death by deer, car crashes, running, shot guns and some talk about using black folks as sex slaves.
It’s hard to pick out that one scene which I enjoyed the most. But if I had to, I’d probably go with is probably where Chris and Rose’s brother talk about fighting. The entire movie is really intense but not devoid of some pockets of humour. After all it is from Jordan Peele. I wouldn’t categorize this as a horror movie as has been done in some circles. It however is a pretty good thriller and gets a rating of 7.5 out of 10 in my books.
For a movie that was made with just $4.5m and has so far raked in $177.6m you better recognise that this movie is indeed something special. Sadly, it didnt come to Nigerian cinemas but it’s been released on DVD and Blu-ray so go get it
