REVUE OF THE WOMEN

A group of four friends Omoni Oboli, Kate Henshaw, Katherine Obiang, Ufuoma McDermott and their husbands converge on a resort to celebrate the 40th Birthday anniversary of Omoh (Ufoma) but the celebrations go sideways when secrets that threaten the groups friendship and even their marriages begin to emerge.

There is one word that best describes this movie: Drama! A line in the film goes “Where two or three women are gathered, there is war” and this line best describes the goings on in this film. The Women was full of back stabbing and amebo that you will be forgiven to think that the film happened in the female hostel of a Nigerian University.

As always, I went into this film blind with no idea what to expect but I should have noticed the weird look the teller at the cinema counter gave me when I asked for a ticket to see it especially since he asked if I had a female companion. That should have hinted me at the kind of film it was. i.e a chick flick. Anyways, even though it was a female oriented film, it still had a few laughs which the men folk will appreciate.

One thing that struck me while I was seeing The Women is the similarity in visual style between this film and the “Lekki Wives” series but it all made sense when I saw Blessing Egbe’s name as the director in the closing credits. (please don’t ask me how I know Lekki Wives visual style). Ehen before I forget, I think Gregory was the life of the film because even though he played a peripheral role, every time he appeared, you are sure of a good laugh. That guy has carved a niche for himself in Nollywood but he should be careful lets he be type cast as the bumbling guy in every film.

Even though some scenes were a tad bit exaggerated and there were quite a lot of cliché scenes with predictable outcomes, I think it makes for a good viewing. However, if you are a guy and you want to see it, I advise that you get a female companion so that you don’t have an uncomfortable time sitting amidst hysterically laughing women looking like a “woman wrapper”.

Anyways, if you want to satisfy your “Aproko” cravings, click HERE for discounted tickets and go see it on the big screen. Afterwards, feel free to leave your comment in the comment section or on my Twitter or Facebook page and let me know what you think about it.

Have a great day today!
