REVUE OF TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT
While Optimus is away in search of his creator, the Autobots have been declared illegal in the world (except Cuba for some reason) and the earth is threatened with destruction by Quintessa. However, mankind can be saved by Merlin’s staff hidden on Earth since the time of King Arthur and it is up to Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; Sir Edmund Burton (Anthony Hopkins) and Viviane Wembly (Laura Haddock) to find it and save the world.
Transformers: The Last Knight is every inch the bloated spectacle we expected it to be. But let’s be honest- we are all here for the CGI because we know that Transformers usually has a shallow plot. So, if like me, you were there for the CGI, you will be perfectly satisfied with what we saw especially if you saw it in IMAX 3D like I did.
The movie starts in 484 AD in ancient England where we meet King Arthur and his knights and Merlin who forge an alliance with 12 robots aka the Knights of the Roundtable. LOL who ever thought this was a good idea for a movie plot? Honestly, methinks this was just an opportunity to introduce robot dragons to the film. I mean, we have had robot dinosaurs, robot birds, robot scorpions and snakes so what’s next? A robot dragon of course!
We always talk about how shallow the plot for the Transformers series are, but allow me to point out something I have noticed with the franchise. Somehow all the Transformer movies have something to do with a lot of conspiracy theories. Transformers- Dark Side of The Moon dealt with the moon landing while Transformers: Age of Extinction, dealt with humans adopting alien technology for military use and now this installment is dealing with the Myth of King Arthur and the Knights of the roundtable. Maybe we should give them a little credit? Who am I Kidding? Their plot is always subpar but hey we got to see a three-headed, fire-breathing dragon. So who cares about the trashy plot, right?
The highlight of the movie was the entrance of Optimus Prime who for me does the grandest entrance in cinema. I loved when he arrived and said “Did you forget who I am? I am Optimus Prime!” His rallying call never fails to give me goose bumps with his powerful voice. Although his arrival was quite belated, his appearance was worth the wait. I was also pleased with the pivotal role Bumblebee played and i think its a precursor to the Bumblebee spinoff expected in 2018.
Because of the Sallah holiday, there will be queues at the cinema and you may not get a seat, so why not buy a ticket here and reserve a seat for yourself?
