Peter Quill aka Starlord (Chris Pratt) and the rest of the Guardians return for another adventure when a celestial being called Ego (Kurt Russel) arrives claiming to be Quills father. This revelation leads to a quest of self-discovery on who Peter really is and why he is the way he is.

One of the most anticipated movies for the year landed in cinemas finally and we couldn’t be happier. This installment is set against the backdrop of Quill’s mother’s compilation “Awesome Mix Tape #2” bursting with so much classic old school jams and answers a lot of questions as regards Quills’ parentage. Questions such as who his father was and why was he left alone with his mother. I feel this installment was more about character development for Peter Quinn preparing him for some a more central role in the Marvel universe.

However, I must confess, Vol. 2 just wasn’t as funny as Vol 1. Don’t get me wrong, there were a lot of jokes and quips from the likes of Rocket Raccoon and from the Star Lord himself but it seemed to lack that oomph that was ever present in the first installment. There was just way too much seriousness here with the plot revolving around family sentiments and even Rocket and Drax weren’t t left out in all this mushiness.  I am sorry but if I want to look for a film about family I will just jejely go and watch Fate of the Furious (again), I am just here for the silliness and to that extent I was disappointed.

On the bright side, I think Groot was pretty cute because his innocence was quite endearing. Another character who somehow managed to warm his way into our heart is Yondu, (Michael Rooker) who comes out of the shadows and plays a really pivotal role. Apparently, we never really appreciated how much he had on Quinn’s formative years. Ehen, I noticed Stan Lee’s cameo was more obvious, I am sure there is something there but I just haven’t figured it out yet. Talking about Cameos, I was really pleased with the appearances of the likes of Sylvester Stallone, David Hasselhoff and even Michelle Yeoh, it’s evident that this franchise has a lot of prospect.

All in all, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was pretty awesome and was rollicking ride, though not as exciting as the first one but still makes for good entertainment. As always, the film was filled with Easter eggs and also the customary end credit scenes (which were about 5 of them) so better sit your butt down till the very end.
