Happy Death is a slasher film about a collegian, Theresa “Tree” Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) who is stuck in a time loop where she wakes up on her birthday and is savagely murdered by a masked killer. She spends her many “lives” trying to figure out her killer in the hope that when she does, she can get out of the time loop.

Happy Death Day is a mash up of Scream and Edge Of Tomorrow and though it doesn’t seem to getting a lot of hype, is quite a decent film. I was reluctant to go see the film probably because the film does not boast of the household Hollywood stars and the plot didn’t seem very appealing. My bias was evident when after 15 minutes into the film is started to tire because nothing seemed to be happening, but after a while, it started to pick up steam.

Furthermore, I liked the plot twist which though was not unexpected was properly executed so the audience could still enjoy the amusement of being blindsided. I was also impressed with the execution of Jessica Rothe who I think is a star for the future because her performance was powerful and commanding.

The premise of the film is appropriate for the Halloween period and I am sure its Friday the 13th release date wasn’t coincidental either, so if you are looking for a little scare spiced with some romance and campus satire, Happy Death Day is the film for you.

As always, I like to hear from you guys, so hit me up on Twitter or Facebook and let me know what you think about this film…or any other film for that matter.
