[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Revue of THE BOSS BABY” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_empty_space height=”25px”][vc_column_text css_animation=”left-to-right”]Alec Baldwin is The Boss Baby (seriously, that was his actual name) who is “delivered” to the Templeton family but turns out to be an undercover “agent” trying to foil a plot by a sinister organization who intend to replace babies with puppies. The Boss Baby and his brother Tim (Miles Christopher Bakshi) must put aside their rivalry and save all babykind.

The trailer for this animated feature already got me and I was super excited when it finally came to Nigerian cinemas. I was curious to see how they will explain a baby who talks, wears a suit and carries a briefcase. I knew it was going to be hilarious and I was absolutely right especially Alec Baldwin’s wit which was just over the top and ridiculously funny.

One angle the movie addressed was the issue of sibling rivalry. Many parents don’t recognize that this is actually a serious issue and they don’t recognize and address it before it escalates. I know many kids who don’t get along because they have always seen themselves in competition for the love and attention of their parents and this jealousy has driven them apart.

Another thing I took away from this movie is how family life and the corporate environment are quite similar. For instance, many organizations feel that throwing money and promotions at employees is enough to win their loyalty and keep them satisfied. This isn’t entirely accurate as employees want to feel appreciated and feel like they matter to the organization and just like a family, organizations should appreciate their employees to get the best out of them. In extending this to the family, parents must recognize that giving your kids money isn’t the only way to show love, these kids want your time and your presence to feel like they are truly loved.

For a kid’s animated movie, the film was laden with quite a number of life lessons. The kids I saw the movie with told me that the three things they learnt from the film were;

  1. Baby brothers aren’t that bad
  2. Mummy and Daddy can love all the kids equally
  3. Siblings should always stick together.

This is obviously a family movie that you can see this Easter period and makes for good quality family time. So why not just click here get your movie tickets and go see it?

Have a happy Easter celebration all.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”25px”][vc_separator][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4bOx0NnBLQ” el_width=”70″ title=”SEE THE BOSS BABY TRAILER HERE”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”Videos”][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Revue of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_empty_space height=”25px”][vc_column_text css_animation=”left-to-right”]This live action remake of the 1991 animated feature of same title is about Belle (Emma Watson) a beautiful and independent girl who is held captive in a castle by a beast (Dan Stevens) but despite her peril she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and eventually the beast himself.

I haven’t always liked the ideology behind the Beauty and the Beast story. I always see it as how fickle a woman can be. “No matter how a man looks, as long as he is rich and can give a woman what she wants, she’ll fall for him”. Afterall Belle loved books and the Beast did give her books…lots of books!.

I don’t want to go into the story of the movie as we all know it, a spell was cast on a prince who was without love turning him into a gruesome beast…the sorceress then gave him a red rose and told him that by the time the last petal falls, if he has not found someone to love and who will love him in return, he will remain a beast forever.

The movie itself was lovely, I use the word ‘lovely’ very carefully because that is what it was; not amazing or scintillating just ‘Lovely’. I had a smile on my face throughout except when I was laughing really hard. There was a lot of humour in the movie. The Candle, the clock, Mrs Pots, Gaston and Lafou (I love Josh Gad!!).

The acting was okay, the effects were okay. I expected much more though, it seemed the movie was kind of forced; as though they tried too hard. Emma as Belle didn’t really impress me at all….she wasn’t as princessy, because I recall Belle to be a very dreamy young woman who lived in her books. I wished they had used a fresh young face….someone new to portray Belle.

The Beast came off as almost handsome in some scenes (probably trying to make him more lovable). Oh! and the singing wasn’t half bad.

Altogether I give the movie 6/10…It was good but not good enough but I am sure Disney is going to make a truck load of money. We should all see it (it’s Beauty and the Beast afterall). You can get your tickets by clicking here and saving yourself the hassle of joining a queue.

It’s funny that a dog is trying to discover its true purpose, when there are millions of humans asking themselves the same question every day and coming up with nothing. What worried me most however was that it took the dog the course of 5 decades to discover its true purpose. Is that indicative that some people never discover their true purpose or find it too late? *sigh* there I go, overthinking stuff again…

Funny I got to hear of this movie when I heard the storm that PETA was throwing its way and asking audiences to stay away from seeing the movie because the producers allegedly mistreated a dog while filming the movie. The producers were cleared of these allegations but the damage had already been done and the movie has flopped in the theatres.

However, I think the movie was really soulful and inspirational and the kid who sat by me at the cinema was sniffling during some scenes especially when the dogs were aging.  Other than the lives of the dogs, the movie beams a light on the lonely lives some humans live with no one but their pets to lean on for love and affection.

Josh Gad gave a decent but unmemorable performance but the kids would love it because kids love furry talking animals. The adults too could learn a thing or two because the film imparts that we must never give up the quest to discover our purpose and who we truly are.

A Dog’s Purpose makes for good family fun with a tinge of morals and gets a 5/10 rating on my awesome-o-metre.
