OSCARS 2020: THE PARASITIC AWARD

OSCARS 2020: THE YEAR OF THE PARASITE

After a grueling 3-hour extravaganza, the 2020 Oscars have gone by. Frankly, I think this is one of the fairest Oscars in a while…and this is in no small part due to the win of Parasite.Parasite was the biggest winner on the night with 4 awards including Best Picture. I am so happy for Bong Joon-ho on how he made such a huge impact with a simple film. I however believe that even though Parasite is a very good film, Hollywood (and the Academy) were trying to show that they are more liberal and inclusive by ensuring that this film won the Best Picture category, beating off stiff competition from Joker and Once Upon a Time In Hollywood.

Conversely, The Irishman is the biggest loser on the night after winning no awards despite being nominated in 9 categories. I feel Stephen Spielberg and his ilk who aren’t fans of movies released on streaming services rather than cinemas may have a hand in this.

This may be the bad belle in me speaking but I am so glad that Lion King didn’t win for best Visual effects. I expected Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame to nick it but it surprisingly went to 1917 and this may be due to the “one take” style that the film was shot in.

I am elated that Joker won best actor because Phoenix’s acting was absolutely phenomenal and losing it would have been daylight robbery because NO ONE merits it more than he has. I believe this is his first win despite being nominated twice before.

What did you think of the Oscars? Was it fair? Who would you have liked to see win? Sound off in the comment section below or on my TwitterInstagram and Facebook.
