Tina Fey is Kim Barker a cable news scriptwriter/producer who is bored with her desk job and decides to take a job as a correspondent in war torn Afghanistan. She always knew that it was not going to be a walk in the park but she was still unprepared for what she encountered. However, while in Kabul she befriends Tanya (Margot Robbie) and Ian (Martin Freeman) who help her settle in and find her feet. She also strikes up a friendship with the commanding officer (Billy Bob Thorton) who assigns her a security detail.

When I was going to see this movie, I was actually expecting one of Tina’s cheeky comedies but I was genuinely surprised when the movie turned out to be a serious on war time journalism and its dangers with a tinge of political sarcasm. I must confess, since her SNL days, I have always been a fan of Tina Fey but I was quite impressed with her in this movie she showed that she is more than just a funny woman.

My favorite character here was Alfred Molina who was hell bent on shagging Tina’s character. The way he went about it cracked me up.

I think this movie was an introduction to another side of the extremely talented Tina Fey and may be a prelude to more “serious” roles. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot aka WTF gets a strong 6.7/10 on my awesome-o-meter.
