Revue of ANNA
Anna is directed by visionary director Luc Besson and is about Anna (Sasha Luss) who is recruited to become a government assassin for the Russian KGB. However, when the agency goes back on its word, it must feel her wrath.
If John Wick and Black Widow had a child, that child would be Anna because she takes head shots just like Wick, and also is acrobatic in taking down her foes just like Black Widow. I absolutely loved the action sequences in this film which came at such pace and intensity although there were too few of such scenes and I wished for more because they were that good.
When I saw the trailer of this film, I got some Red Sparrow vibes because both films had a similar plot with female assassins relying on their sex appeal to take down their foes. However, unlike Red Sparrow, Anna not only relied on her pretty face and technical dexterity but also used her psychoanalytic skills to best her opponents. Talking about psychoanalysis, you will need to pay attention to the timelines of the film because they play a very important role in the development of the plot. If you don’t pay attention you could get lost in the first 20 minutes of the film and that will ruin the whole experience for you.
I am so happy the Luc Besson who has given us a lot of heroines (like Scarlet Johansson in Lucy and Milla Jovovich in Sixth Sense) redeemed himself with Anna after the farce that was Valerian and the City of A Thousand Planets – which was such a really awful film. Anna couldn’t have come at a better time what with the feminist movement that is sweeping the planet.
Anna is a very intense film and action-packed film with a not so novel plot but with a delicious twist thrown into it, so I highly recommend that you go see it because it’s really entertaining. If you do get to see Anna, please let me know what you think in the comment section below or on Twitter and Facebook.
Have a great week!
