Gemini Man is about Henry Brogan (Will Smith),  an elite assassin who becomes the target of a mysterious operative who can seemingly predict his every move. To his horror, he soon learns that the man who is trying to kill him is a younger, faster, cloned version of himself.

The trailer for Gemini Man made me very skeptical to see this film because the plot seems something out of the nineties. I am sure we all remember seeing Looper that starred Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the Plot for Gemini Man seemed a little to similar to that one save for the time travel element. For this singular reason I didn’t expect much from this film and sadly this was exactly the case. Gemini Man didn’t have much to show us in terms of the storyline because there really wasn’t much to do with it that hasn’t already been done.

Despite my misgivings from the onset about Gemini Man, I went to see it so I could see how they would pull off the 2 Will Smiths. I must say that they didn’t do so badly in the most part but in some parts, the younger character looked dodgy. Apparently, Ang Lee didn’t use de-aging as is the fad these days but created a whole CGI character of the younger Will Smith using his images from his Fresh Prince days. This is no mean feat and I must applaud Weta Digital – the VFX Company that created the character. They apparently do good work as they also did the CGI for Alita: Battle Angel.

One thing that Gemini Man got going for it is the action sequences which were very intense – especially there scenes where the Will Smith’s characters were fighting against each other. That’s not mean feat to pull off! Also, I think Will Smith did well in portraying and voicing both characters because he managed to distinguish them in manner and expression.

Gemini Man is a fair action movie that though not impressive (especially with its plot) has its high points. What’s better than one Will Smith? Two Will Smiths of course. So, if you are a Will groupie, then Gemini Man is your film. I am curious to hear what you think so let me know in the comment section below or reach me on TwitterInstagram and Facebook.

Have an awesome week!
