[vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Revue of HUSTLERS” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_empty_space height=”25px”][vc_column_text css_animation=”left-to-right”]Hustlers follows a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients.  The film is inspired by the article published by New York Magazine entitled “The Hustlers at Scores” written by Jessica Pressler

A film with Jennifer Lopez as a stripper? Yes please! To be honest, that J. Lo is playing the role of a stripper was my only incentive to go see Hustlers because the plot isn’t one that I find interesting and I am sure I am not the only one that feels this way. Hustlers is set against the backdrop of the United States in the year 2008 and focuses on the effect of the recession on a less talked about aspect of the economy i.e., the adult entertainment industry. Though this may sound novel, I felt it would lack a lot of the material needed to make it interesting… and I was right.

Hustlers started well with great pole artistry and an interesting direction but as the film wore on, so did our patience. The film just seemed to keep going with the audience becoming impatient as we awaited the (inevitable) busting of the gang of thieves. Hustlers just kept going on and on without any real direction and when it ended, we couldn’t be happier. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying the film was very bad, I am just saying that it lacked any real material to keep the audience expectant.

What the film did get right though is their choice of characters. How is Jennifer Lopez 50 and still look like that? What’s even more amazing is how she made for a good stripper. Honestly, I am not sure how she managed to swing from the pole that good or did they use a stunt (wo)man? Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians) also did a good job as the naïve newcomer in the pole dancing score and Cardi B was…, well, Cardi B.

Hustlers is mildly recommended for cheap laughs and if you like pole dancing and brief nudity, Hustlers will scratch that itch for you. Hustlers somehow tried to weave a story that strippers are people too with feelings and families and this though a good lesson still makes it look like most strippers do this simply because they have no choices. Make of this whatever you may.

Have an awesome day today.
