Johnny English Strikes Again is a British spy action comedy film with Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson) reprising his role as the title character who is called out of retirement to investigate a cyber-attack that reveals the identity of all active undercover agents in Britain.

The third in the series of the adventures of the bumbling MI7 agent, Johnny English Strikes Again is exactly what it is touted to be – a movie about an old-school secret agent who is out of his depth as he is thrust into a technologically advanced world with his old-school ideas and principles. There is a similarity between the premise of this film and the reception of this film because just like the plot of this film, Johnny English Strikes Again, has no place with modern audiences. I have been a fan of Rowan Atkinson since his Mr Bean days and it saddens me to say that this film will not appeal to contemporary viewers as the world has gone past old school James Bond type secret agents.

That said, I think Rowan Atkinson is comical as his typical lumbering self, always inadvertently getting into mischief but somehow managing to stay alive (mostly with the help of his sidekick) and solving the case. Johnny English Strikes Again is plagued with cliché scenes and dialogue and doesn’t give the audience anything new because we have seen it all before. I really do hope that this is the last in the installment because this franchise has overstayed its welcome.

If you are a fan of films that feature lumbering protagonists, Johnny English Strikes Again is right up your alley, but if you aren’t a fan of such, its best that you avoid this as you will leave disappointed. Though I am an unabashed fan of Rowan Atkinson, this film was a bit subpar but I got the satisfaction of someone finally asking Rowan a question I have always wanted to ask, and that question is “What is wrong with you?”

I know I am not the only fan of Mr Bean fan, so if you are, please leave me a shout in the comment section below or on Twitter and Facebook.

Have a blast!
