REVUE OF JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom takes place 4 years after the disaster that forced the closure of the theme park. Now, an active volcano on the island threatens (another) extinction of the beloved dinosaurs and Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue them…what could go wrong?
Jurassic Park (World) is admittedly one of the most successful series in cinematic history but it seems they have run out of reasons to return to the island for another round of Dinosaur mayhem because the the premise of this film is that the protagonists are conned to make an ill-advised adventure to the Island of Isla Nublar (sound familiar?). Also, I think it’s time they killed off Dr. Henry W (B.D Wong) the scientist who keeps making these hybrid dinosaurs, because honestly, that storyline has run outs course.
That said, I must admit that Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is wildly entertaining! Despite the lack of creativity on how to get the characters back on the Island, they still managed to infuse a new direction into the plot to make it tolerable to watch. In the previous installments of Jurassic Park, the action has mostly occurred outdoors or in the animal’s terrain but this time there was a lot of action in human habitats which was a refreshing new direction to the plot and the small plot twist at the end made for a pretty exciting finale.
Also, in previous Jurassic Park installments, the focus has been on size of the dinosaurs but I particularly liked that the direction was switched this time to guile rather than monstrosity with my favorite T-rex taking a lesser role with Blue (the raptor) having a pivotal character. Oh you guys need to look out for Headbutt-O-Saurus who is now officially my 3rd best dinosaur!
Surprisingly, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom lives up to expectations as an entertaining film, so why not go to the cinema and see it for yourself though the 3D version isn’t particularly fantastic.
