Revue of MILE 22
Mile 22 stars Mark Wahlberg as James Silva, an operative of the CIA’s most highly-prized and least-understood unit. Aided by a top-secret tactical command team, Silva and his team must retrieve and transport an asset who holds life-threatening information to Mile 22 for extraction before the enemy closes in.
My expectations for Mile 22 was that it was going to pan out like Sicario with a lot of intensity but unfortunately, I was quite disappointed. The premise of this film wasn’t fresh as we have seen this same storyline many times before, and what would have distinguished it would be its execution but sadly, it failed to deliver on that note.
Furthermore, I think the conclusion of Mile 22 didn’t help the overall feel of the film. There was an attempt at a plot twist that had been building all the way from the beginning of the film. I know such films thrive on wicked blindsiding but I must be honest, the climax of Mile 22 was underwhelming.
However, one thing Mile 22 had going for it was the fantastic action sequences – The shootout scenes were basic but the hand to hand combat were amazing. I must admit that before this film, I didn’t know who Iko Uwais was, but that dude is a fantastic martial artist. I guess Mark Wahlberg was supposed to be the main character but to be honest, Iko stole the whole show. I am going to pay him attention because he was so fast and his moves were so fluid and intense. I can imagine him and Scott Adkins go at it one day, won’t that be a sight?
Mile 22 belatedly dropped in Nigerian cinemas today and will be a fix for the action film fans out there so when you see the film, let me know what you think in the comment below or on social media (Twitter and Facebook )
